A Northeast Ohio-based company is working on a solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by changing the way farmers feed cattle.

Locus Animal Nutrition, a new operating company of Locus Fermentation Solutions, has developed a methane-reducing microbial feed additive for cattle that led to it being named one of 15 top agtech startups by the Rabobank FoodBytes! Pitch discovery program.

Preliminary data from a trial evaluating a Locus Fermentation Solutions’ microbe in cattle at UC Davis showed significant reduction in methane emissions in cows, without sacrificing animal health or performance.

Startups selected to participate in Rabobank’s virtual FoodBytes! Pitch competition this fall provide a neat snapshot into trending topics in food and agriculture, from alternative proteins and upcycled ingredients, to edible cutlery, relaxation beverages, b2b e-commerce, and regenerative agriculture.
